I recently bought the 830 -- my first cycling computer -- and it's been great. I just bought a Wahoo Roam and I like it. The Wahoo Elemnt Roam has a stated life up to 17 hours, whilst the Garmin Edge 830 lists a 20 hour span. I think, feature wise, the new Garmin looks a little better. Edit: I realize that I may be overlooking the intended use of the device. Hopefully the acquisition of TACX will see things change, but I know I wouldn't rush out and buy another Garmin Edge unit until at least 6 months of reviews are in. I like the "workouts" function on the garmin where it has training that you can program in. I have only used the mapping to find my way back to the start of a ride but that was quick and accurate and the screen is fine. I did like that if we needed to look at a specific metric the Roam was easier and quicker than navigate and put on screen. To be honest there are so many functions I will never use. My experience with the Edge 830 was pretty bad. With the Edge 1030, Garmin has taken a huge leap forward, but battery life when using navigation does not hit that claimed 20hr mark. Started riding on Wahoo and while everything else is Garmin, I enjoy the Wahoo interface too much to switch. But overall, love the garmin. Maybe worth pointing out that Cycle Republic have got an offer at the moment on the 820 Edge, £157 which isn't as cheap as the £141 I bought mine for a month ago but a bargain in my opinion.
