Mile 19.7 – Steamboat Point The road goes by a small parking area for Steamboat Point. Artist Point, thought to be named by park photographer F. J. Haynes as early as 1883, provides what is perhaps the most beautiful views of the entire Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone and of Lower Yellowstone Falls some 308 feet high. The East Entrance Road is one of five roads that provide access to the Grand Loop Road and the rest of Yellowstone. The road crosses the Yellowstone River just north of Lake Yellowstone on the Fishing Bridge. This is an easy 1.5 mile loop trail to Storm Point. This is the route usually taken by those staying in, or passing through, the town of Cody, Wyoming on the way. This is a relatively calm geothermal area right on the bank of Lake Yellowstone. This short 2.3 mile out-and-back hike on the Storm Point Trail begins right in front of Indian Pond on the East Entrance Road of Yellowstone National Park.
